Jeffrey D. Fisher

Brief Bio:
Jeffrey D. Fisher is a Professor of Psychology at the University of Connecticut. He is the founder and Director of its Center for Health, Intervention, and Prevention (CHIP). He received his Master's degree and Ph.D. from Purdue University. Professor Fisher has been awarded seven major NIMH grants since 1989 on HIV risk reduction and medical adherence, totaling over $28 million as PI. Most of his work has involved theory and empirical work on the dynamics of unhealthy behavior and on social psychological factors that can affect the success of interventions to change such behavior. He has lectured internationally and published extensively on factors associated with HIV risk behavior, and has done a great deal of conceptual and empirical work in the area of interventions to increase HIV preventive behavior. His work also focuses on designing theoretically-based interventions to increase adherence to antiretroviral therapy, and on health behavior change in general. New work focuses on dissemination of effective health behavior change interventions.
