  2. Special Online Collection: HIV/AIDS - Follow the Money

In the 25 July 2008 issue, Science follows the HIV/AIDS money trail, with News correspondent Jon Cohen reporting on how billions of HIV/AIDS research dollars have been divvied up over the past decade and what they have accomplished. Two case studies with accompanying videos (filmed and edited by Malcolm Linton with commentary by Jon Cohen) highlight efforts to combat corruption in Uganda and aggressive treatment and prevention programs in Botswana; a pair of Perspectives looks at progress and challenges of microbicide and HIV vaccine research; and related podcast interviews discuss trends in research funding and the future of vaccine research. Rounding out the special issue is a collection of Web resources for additional information on HIV/AIDS research and funding.

  3. GlobalHealthFacts.org: Compare Countries on HIV/AIDS, TB, Malaria and Other Information with Custom Data Sheets

A new, free tool was recently added to the Kaiser Family Foundation's GlobalHealthFacts.org Web site. Using all of the data available on the Web site, users can now create customized data sheets to get a closer look at the global health, demographic and economic indicators of most interest to them. http://www.globalhealthfacts.org/factsheets_custom.jsp The data sheets can then be converted to PDFs and easily printed, emailed or saved.

GlobalHealthFacts.org, a project of the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation, provides free, up-to-date and easy-to-access data by country on HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria and other key health and socio-economic indicators. The data are displayed in tables, charts, and color-coded maps. Additionally, the custom data sheet application allows users to compare up to five countries against any or all of the site’s indicators, which can then be converted into a PDF file, printed, emailed or saved. Data can also be downloaded for custom analyses.
