Request for Letters of Intent Community Research Partnership Program (CRPP)

This page is also available in: Microsoft Word (.doc) and Adobe Acrobat (.pdf)

The Center for Interdisciplinary Research on AIDS (CIRA) seeks proposals for the fifth annual Community Research Partnership Program grant competition in HIV prevention research. This program aims to support the conduct of research by Community Based Organizations (CBOs) in collaboration with CIRA scientists, and thereby to build the research capacity of CBOs while addressing a community HIV prevention need. At the same time, the program will also expand the pool of AIDS researchers doing community-based research.

Proposed projects should be consistent with CIRA’s mission to conduct research on the prevention of HIV infection and on the reduction of the negative consequences of HIV disease in vulnerable and underserved populations. The project should represent a new area of interest. For example, you might propose to get preliminary data for a new intervention strategy or to measure risk behaviors in a particular population of interest. Projects that examine methodological issues in HIV/AIDS prevention research or legal, policy or ethical issues will also be considered. The project should not be used to evaluate your current programs.

CIRA plans to fund up to two projects this year, with a maximum award for individual projects of $15,000. Funding will be provided for up to one year. The application—excluding budget pages—will not exceed five pages. All applicants must have a CIRA scientist as a collaborator on the project. We will help applicants identify an appropriate CIRA scientist collaborator.

LETTER OF INTENT: CBOs must submit a short Letter of Intent. This letter need only include a descriptive title of the proposed idea, a one paragraph description of your idea, and the name and contact information of the staff member who will work on the project. It might be helpful to express your idea as a research question. We encourage you to contact us before submitting your Letter of Intent to discuss your idea and its feasibility. Please contact Leif Mitchell, Assistant Director, Community Research Core, at (203) 764-4347. Please send the Letter of Intent to Leif Mitchell by mail (CIRA, Attn: Leif Mitchell, 40 Temple Street, Suite 1B, New Haven, CT 06510-2715) or by e-mail (leif.mitchell@yale.edu). Letters of Intent should be postmarked or sent by e-mail no later than March 17, 2006

APPLICATION PROCESS: We will invite CBOs that submit a Letter of Intent to a meeting at which we will explain the Community Research Partnership Program and the application process more fully. Our invitation for you to submit a full application will be contingent upon (1) the project’s alignment with CIRA’s mission, (2) the availability of a CIRA scientist collaborator, and (3) the feasibility of the project.

ELIGIBILITY: All CBOs in Connecticut are encouraged to apply.
