Ryan White Planning Council

The Ryan White Planning Council is mandated by the federal Ryan White Treatment and Modernization Act of 2006. The Planning Council makes decisions about how to allocate emergency assistance to localities that are disproportionately affected by HIV/AIDS. These federal funds pay for care and services for people living with HIV and AIDS. Specifically, the Planning Council studies the needs of people living with HIV/AIDS in the area using needs assessment tools and other forms of community input, decides what kind of care and services are most important for people living with HIV/AIDS in the area, and allocates the Ryan White resources among these important services to best serve people living with HIV/AIDS in the area. In Connecticut there are two Planning Councils. One that covers New Haven and Fairfield Counties and another for Hartford, Tolland and Middlesex Counties.
