AIDS International Training and Research Program

Training and Research in HIV Prevention in Russia (AITRP)

The AIDS International Training and Research Program (AITRP) began in 1988 as one of the first of a new generation of research training programs sponsored by the Fogarty International Center at the National Institutes of Health. These re-designed programs help scientists from institutions in low- and middle-income countries build research and public health capacities in those countries.

In 1998, CIRA, in collaboration with the Biomedical Center and St. Petersburg State University in St. Petersburg, Russia, began an AITRP focused on HIV prevention and covering a wide range of public health-related disciplines. Since then, CIRA's AITRP has received a number of supplements to expand our work to other countries.
