Annie George, Ph.D., M.P.H., India Study Director

Annie George, Ph.D., M.P.H. (ageorge@yale-india.org), India Study Director, received her Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of California, San Francisco, and her M.P.H. from the University of California, Berkeley, as well as an M.A. in Social Work at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences in Bombay where she later served as a lecturer in the Department of Health Services Studies. She has served as the Principal Investigator for two ethnographic studies on the sexuality, sexual behavior, and sexual negotiation of poor women and men in Bombay. Her research interests and publications are in the areas of the intersections and social constructions of gender, sexuality and family among different Indian communities.
